Positions in Geo-social Media Analytics for Disaster Management (f/m/d) *
10h/week | Up to 4 years | On-site in Linz (AT) | Start Date: 1st May 2026
Field of Research and Scope:
- Machine-learning based algorithms for information extraction from user-generated geo-data
- Information fusion methods
- Methodologies for multimodal relevance classification
- Interaction with disaster managers to support decision-making in crisis management boards
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Conducting research
- Writing academic publications
- Attending national and international conferences
- Supporting science communication activities
- Collaborating with other research groups on an interdisciplinary basis
- Helping to file applications for third-party funding
- Complying with the institution’s academic standards and ethical guidelines
Your strengths and skills:
- You must have completed a PhD degree (or an equivalent) in geoinformatics, computer science, mathematics, physics, computational neuroscience, or other relevant fields.
- Excellent communication and social skills are required for working in an interdisciplinary and dynamic team as well as for conducting research independently.
- Collaboration on publications with other members of the team is expected, aiming to publish in high-profile international journals and conferences.
- Fluent in English
