Full-Time | Up to 4 years | On-site in Linz (AT) | Start Date: 1. April 2026
FIELD OF RESEARCH AND SCOPE:
Critical infrastructures are more vital than ever for life in our technology-oriented societies. At the same time, the threat landscape targeting these infrastructures is increasing at a rapid pace. Our scientific work focuses on the security and resilience of critical infrastructures, with particular attention to the Internet as a global communication infrastructure and the power grid as the primary energy source of the future. A significant obstacle lies in mapping. Consequently, we employ diverse methods to gain insights into these large-scale, human-made infrastructures—such as Internet measurements, open-source intelligence, and interviews—to determine their current state. Based on the insights collected, we assess their mutual dependencies and vulnerabilities, often in collaboration with experts from other disciplines, and propose countermeasures to maintain their security and resilience, even in times of crisis.
