Lab Assistant for our ROB LearnLab (Robotics) (f/m/d)*

Part-time (min. 20 hours/week) or full-time (40 hours/week) | On-site in Linz (AT)

Join our team and make our cutting-edge project based learning methodology become reality at IT:U.

IT:U offers interdisciplinary study programs focused on digital transformation, using a hands-on, project-based learning model. Students work on real-world projects in specialized labs covering areas like robotics, AR/VR, motion capture, digital production, and data science.

The ROB LearnLab (Robotics) is a central hub connected across multiple labs, with a primary focus on robotics, while also integrating closely with our specialized prototyping spaces:

  • HANS (our digital fabrication lab where students transform concepts into real, functioning prototypes using tools like 3D printing, laser cutting, and electronic components) and
  • HELGA (part of the Infineon lab cluster, established through IT:U’s strategic cooperation with Infineon Austria, where students combine additive/subtractive manufacturing with electronics and software development to design and program intelligent physical systems).

We are looking for a tech-savvy Lab Assistant (f/m/d) with a strong specialization in robotics and hardware integration who is passionate about education and eager to support students in bringing their robotic concepts to life.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Participate in the configuration, operation, maintenance, and upgrading of specialized robotics hardware, mobile/stationary robot systems, and lab equipment.
  • Instruct and guide students in the use of robotics platforms, electronic components, sensors, and experimental setups to successfully execute their projects.
  • Facilitate regular restocking, equipment maintenance, and timely software/hardware upgrades across the ROB LearnLab and associated labs.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment repairs and maintenance to ensure smooth daily lab operations.
  • Identify and develop synergies with other labs and participate in larger research and education projects involving multiple labs.
  • Maintain and enforce a lab safety concept for safe and compliant operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in safety certification courses.

Your strengths and skills:

  • Relevant academic degree (e.g., in Robotics, or a related field) or comparable practical experience
  • Proficiency in ROS (Robot Operating System) for programming and controlling robotic systems
  • Strong foundation in programming, especially Python
  • Previous experience working with robotics hardware, preferably in an educational or research environment
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and sensors, preferably using the Arduino platform, as well as of computer vision, ideally applied in a robotics context
  • Strong understanding and, if necessary, certification of safety protocols and procedures
  • Self-motivated and service-oriented personality with excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English at a minimum C1 level

What you can expect:

  • Work in a highly inspiring academic environment, with a range of the latest hardware, together with other lab experts, lecturers and researchers from an interdisciplinary background
  • Facilitate project-based learning for students and support a wide variety of exciting robotics and hardware prototyping projects
  • Unique opportunity to help build a new university
  • Attractive campus with good transport connections
  • Free parking or Climate Ticket Upper Austria
  • Flexible working hours through a flextime model and the option for home office

We offer a competitive starting salary of 42,000 gross per year (full-time basis).
